How to protect the bicycle frame: chain guard and frame protectors

The chain guard is a must-have accessory on your bike. 

This component serves to protect the frame of your bike where the chain is located. 

Due to the movement caused by the chain when encountering potholes on the road, but especially off-road, the chain impacts the frame, ruining it, and protecting the frame is the role of the chain guard!

The chainstay, whether it is made of Neoprene, silicone or PVC, protects the frame of your bike. There are different sizes, materials and prices on the market.

The frame protectors follow the same philosophy but can be applied to the entire bicycle frame.

There are various kits for this particular process or wrapping.

On the market there are different types of films for protecting the frame, from the thickest in multilayer to the thinnest and most discreet: the protective effect is obtained by applying the film to the frame partially or totally, in this case the protection of the frame will be maximum.

Transparent and adhesive PVC chain protectors are available on the market. In this and in other materials you can find shaped protectors (pre-cut) in the right size for certain parts of the bike. Or you can get them in sheets of suitable film, which you can cut according to the specific requirements of the frame, so that you can determine the shape and size according to the area you want to protect.

Also the protective films with carbon effect are very popular in the department of mountain biking, the other solution is the chainstay made of Lycra and neoprene that is applied to the frame through a Velcro closure.

In recent years we find on the market a new type of chainstay: the bike chainstay in soft plastic, very robust and suitable especially for MTBs and electric MTBs, this type of chainstay can be washed and reassembled on the bike very easily.
